My Grandmothers Sewing Machine

My Grandmothers sewing machine is now mine
She has been sitting in my Aunts shed for many years and now has come to live with me
My grandmother was born in 1900 and died in 1938 leaving behind a nine year old... my Mum
and her sister aged 4
I googled the serial number and this Singer was manufactured in 1910 in Clydebank Scotland
Fitting I think that it is now mine as Iam the only grand child who sews and I was named for my grand mother.
The unusual spelling of my name Illene obviously dates back many years
Iam very happy to have my grandmothers machine in my home

  7. Hello Illene,

The family heirloom is wonderful. Hope you get to have many hours of sewing on it. I was given a base like this many years ago from a friends backyard. I made up a jarrah top and it is in my entrance.

    Happy days.
    Bev.

  8. I'm glad the machine is in the hands of someone who will cherish it. My mother had a little motor fitted to her mother's old machine and my sister who does a lot more sewing than I do still uses it.

  10. How wonderfully awesome! It is so lovely that you now have it and that it shall be cherished. So many of them were refurbished as tables much to my horror. How sad that your grandmother died so young.
